Cascade Avalanche wins
0-55 Women Veteran's Cup

Washington State Women's Soccer proudly announces the spectacular win of their team; Cascade Avalanche in the 0-55 Women's
Division of the 9th annual Veteran's Cup. Final score was 2-1 over Michigan. This game was decided after double
overtime with 6 penalty kicks. In spite of the extreme heat and humidity, these women managed to prove that soccer is
- indeed - "your game for life.
Umberto Abronzino, Passes

Umberto Abronzino, whose lifelong dedication to soccer earned him a spot in the sport's hall of fame, has passed on. Abronzino,
who died Saturday in San Jose, CA, was 85. His playing career began in Italy, where he won honors on the Lauro di Sessa team
in 1936. A former barber in Hartford, Connecticut he emigrated from Italy in 1937 and played for and managed several Connecticut
teams from 1937-1952.

WSSA Hall of Fame

Washington State Soccer Association held its third annual Hall of Fame awards dinner on May 6, 2006. Among those
honored were Denise Bender who was voted into the Hall of Fame. Denise has a long and distinguished career in soccer.
She played from about age 14, usually on a select team. Denise played with F.C. Lowenbrau and F.C. Ramlosa of Washington State
Women's Soccer in the Women's National competition in 1982 winning Open Division honors with them. When Mike Ryan of
Washington was chosen to coach the first ever Women's National Team, Denise was one of his first picks. She was elected
captain. The Women played in Italy at the Munaquita. They also played Canada in Minnesota in 1986. This
was the first women's international game on U.S. soil for them.
Denise continued to play and coach for many years under the Washington State Women's Soccer Assn. "banner". Her
teams were successful in 0-30, and 0-40 in National and Vet Cup competition. She currently lives in southern California
but happily came up for the banquet awards.
Denise joins other women; Bernadette Noonan, Janet Slauson and Joyce Trader from WSWSA who were honored previously.
Washington is proud of our women's contribution to the sport. We thank her and all of the others who continue to share
their expertise.

Edward G. Eid Passes

Edward Eid, Colorado State
Soccer Association,General Manager passed away last evening, Wednesday July 5th in Germany while attending the
World Cup. Ed suffered a stroke and was later removed from life support. He and Ramona left Colorado on Sunday, July
30 th to watch the semi-final match yesterday between France and Portugal.

Deportivo Arcy wins Washington Cup

Arcy of Liga Hispana Del Noroeste defeated Los Gordos Mexican food Store 2 to 1 to win the 2006 WSSA Copa Washington Tournament. The two teams were tied
1-1 after regulation and overtime. It took 15 rounds of penalty kicks
to decide the championship of the tournament. These two teams will be
joined by Bayern Munich of Tacoma and San Carlos of Mount Vernon as Washington’s representatives to the 2006 Region IV Copa America Invitational to be held in August.
